When and how did it panic ?
If you are using the BPPC without SCSI, then you MUST hold 's' on boot to
disable the nonexisting SCSI controller. That is, unless you compile a kernel
without SCSI
Another reason might be that you have the 60ns switch set as a kernel command
line. It doesn't work here.
